Gliga Guarneri Violin for Sale in Vancouver
4/4 Vasile Gliga Maestro Extra, Code D1797V
Looking for a violin with a darker, more powerful sound? A Gliga Guarneri may be just what you need. Many violinists prefer the Guarneri pattern to the classic Stradivari model for exactly that reason. This 4/4 Vasile Gliga Maestro Extra is built on the Guarneri pattern and handmade in the Gliga workshop in Reghin, Romania.

Guarneri and Stradivari: two masters of Cremona
Bartolomeo Giuseppe Guarneri "del Gesù" (1698–1744) worked in Cremona at the same time as Antonio Stradivari (c. 1644–1737), the most famous violin maker of all. Del Gesù came from a family of makers: his grandfather Andrea Guarneri had trained with Nicolò Amati, the same tradition that shaped Stradivari. Yet instead of following the refined, symmetrical style of the time, del Gesù went his own way. He changed the shape of the violin, giving it wider hips and a bolder outline, and he cut longer, more angular f-holes, often with a slightly irregular, hand-carved look.
His violins became legendary through Niccolò Paganini. Around 1802, Paganini came into possession of a 1743 del Gesù violin, which he called "Il Cannone" (the Cannon) for its powerful sound. He played it for the rest of his career and left it to his native city of Genoa, where it is still kept today.
Players who choose the Guarneri pattern often look for a darker, more powerful tone. This Gliga Guarneri violin follows del Gesù's model: wider hips and the long, angular f-holes that set it apart from a Stradivari-pattern violin.
