Product Description
A practice metal mute that has been completely encased in a protective rubber coating. This hybrid design makes it one of the most popular "hotel" or "apartment" mutes because it combines the best features of the two main types of mutes:
1. The Core (Metal)
The internal structure is made of solid metal. This weight is crucial because the more mass you add to the bridge, the more you dampen the vibrations. This allows it to reduce your violin's volume by about 70%–80%, which is significantly more than a purely rubber mute could achieve.
2. The Coating (Rubber)
The entire metal body is dipped in a thick, high-quality rubber or vinyl sheath. This is the "rubbery feeling" you notice when you touch the mute. It serves two purposes:
-
Protection: If you drop a raw metal mute on your violin, it can easily crack the varnish or dent the wood. The coating acts as a shock absorber.
-
Bridge Safety: It prevents the metal from scratching or leaving "pressure bites" on the delicate maple of your bridge.
